Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett

Yesterday we looked at some of the actors that we thought we stand the test of time. Today it is the turn of the ladies.

When you think about female film icons the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh and Marilyn Monroe spring to mind.

So which of today's actresses have that enduring quality? When we look back on this period of film who will be the stars that stand out?

- Cate Blanchett

There is not actress that captures that old school glamour than Cate Blanchett, in fact she an actress that would have fitted right alongside the Hepburn's and the Leigh's of the golden age.

She is one of the greatest actresses of her generation as she has a talent, a poise and an elegance that is unrivaled.

She already has an Oscar win under her belt for The Aviator; along with four other nominations.

And we are going to be seeing plenty of her over the next year or so as she has completed work on the likes of Blue Jasmine, The Turning, Knight of Cups and The Monuments Men.

She will also be reprising the role of Galadriel in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again.

- Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet is one of the best actresses that this country has ever produced and has delivered some fine performances throughout her career.

She is one of the most versatile actresses in Hollywood as she has moved from period drama, to comedy, to hard hitting drama and blockbusters.

She has a Best Actress Oscar under her belt, for her performance in The Reader, as well as five other nominations.

2013 has been quite quiet for the actress but she has completed work on Labour Day and A Little Chaos, both of which will be released next year.

She is currently filming Divergent with Shailene Woodley and is directed by Neil Burger.

- Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is very much at the start of her acting career but she has already made a huge impact and become a massive star.

At the tender age of just twenty two Lawrence has got her hands on the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

In fact, it was her second nomination as she grabbed everyone's attention a couple of years earlier with a knockout performance in Winter's Bone.

But she is just as much at home in the blockbusters with The Hunger Games and X-Men franchises under her belt.

And she will continue to juggle dramatic projects with blockbusters as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, X-Men: Days of Future Past, American Hustle and Serena are all on board.

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most exciting actress to come along in quite some time and she is set to have a very successful career ahead of her.

- Meryl Streep

She has enjoyed a career that has spanned over forty years and deliver fantastic performance after fantastic performance.

She is the most nominated actor in Oscar history as she has picked up seventeen nominations throughout her career; winning three times.

Kramer vs Kramer, Sophie's Choice and The Deer Hunter are some of her best performances while she has created some unforgettable characters such as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada.

- Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain is a favourite here at FemaleFirst and she is another star that has that old school glamour.

She may have kicked her acting career off in 2004 but it has been in recent years that she has grabbed everyone's attention.
