After Earth

After Earth

Will Smith has worked sparingly in the last few years but he is set to make his big screen return this summer.

After Earth sees him reunite with his son Jaden for their second project together; the pair lit up the screen when they played father and son in The Pursuit of Happyness back in 2007.

They are playing father and son once again but this time they are tackling science fiction with M. Night Shyamalan at the helm.

And we have some exciting new clips for you to check out as the release date creeps closer:

We haven't seen too much of M. Night Shyamalan of late either but he is looking to get his career back on track with this new movie.

This will be his first directorial outing since The Last Airbender and he has teamed up with Gary Whitta to pen the screenplay. However the movie is based on an original idea from Will Smith himself.

2013 is turning into the year of science fiction and After Earth is one of the movies that really stands out in this genre.

I don't know about you but I am personally excited at seeing Will and Jaden sharing a screen once again as Jaden has really developed as an actor since his debut.

While we have seen him in the likes of The Karate Kid and The Day the Earth Stood Still this is the biggest film, in terms of scale, of his career to date.

Will Smith on the other hand is a dab hand at science fiction and it is good to see him back in the genre where he really thrives.

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape.

With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.

Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

An M. Night Shyamalan movie is always something to be excited about as you never know what you are going to get; let's hope he can recapture some of the magic from his first few movies.

After Earth is released 7th June.
