The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger

August is set to be a great month for movies as there is a bit of everything for all of you film fans; blockbusters, horror, comic book and sci-fi.

There are also a sea of big names to watch out for as Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg and Jodie Foster will all be strutting their stuff.

So, we take a look at the movies that you cannot miss this summer; and boy, is there a lot to choose from.

- The Lone Ranger (12A)

It sees that when Johnny Depp teams up with director Gore Verbinski he finds box office and critical success. This summer they work on their fifth project together in the form of The Lone Ranger.

The movie sees Depp team up with Armie Hammer as Hammer plays the masked here and Depp his sidekick Tonto.

Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.

A terrific support cast has been assembled as William Fichtner, Tom Wilkinson, Ruth Wilson. Helena Bonham Carter, James Badge Dale and Barry Pepper are all set to star.

The Lone Ranger is set to be an action packed ride and a great family adventure this summer.

The Lone Ranger is released 9th August.

- The Conjuring (15)

If horror is more up your street then The Conjuring is definitely the film for you. It has been sending audiences into a frenzy in the U.S. and has been breaking box office records.

The movie sees James wan return to the director's chair; he is no stranger to the horror genre as he has brought us Saw and Insidious in recent years.

Based on a true story the movie follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they try to help a family that is being terrorised by a dark presence.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga take on the roles of Ed and Lorraine, while Lily Taylor and Ron Livingston are also on the cast list.

So, if you are looking for a film that is going to have you jumping out of your seat, then The Conjuring is the film for you.

The Conjuring is released 2nd August.

- Kick Ass 2 (15)

Kick Ass was one of the most critically acclaimed films back in 2010, and now the sequel is finally here.

This time around Jeff Wadlow is in the director's chair as Mark Millar's comics are once again adapted for the big screen.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is back in the title role while Chloe Moretz is also reprising the role of Hit Girl. These were the roles that made them famous and it is fantastic to see them back.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse is also back, while Jim Carrey is one of the great new additions to the cast list.

The movie follows Kick Ass as he joins a group of citizens that have been inspired by him to fight crime, But Red Mist is plotting his revenge.

Kick Ass 2 promises to be just as outrageous as the first and looks set to be another fast paced ride.

Kick Ass 2 is released 14th August.

- 2 Guns (15)

It is always great to see Denzel Washington back on the big screen, and with 2 Guns he is showing off his action credentials once again.

The movie sees him team up with Mark Wahlberg for the very first time as Steven Grant's graphic novel is adapted for the big screen.

Baltasar Kormakur is in the director's chair - he reunites with Wahlberg for the first time since Contraband.

A DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who have been tasked with investigating one another find they have been set up by the mob -- the very organization the two men believe they have been stealing money from.

If you haven't seen the 2 Guns trailer then you really should check out as it shows Washington & Wahlberg at their action best; not to mention it looks like they are going to make a great team.

2 Guns is released 16th August.

- Elysium (15)

Elysium is the movie that I have been looking forward to all year as Neill Blomkamp is back in the director's chair.

Blomkamp is the man that brought us District 9 with his directorial debut and this is his first project since that.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth.

Max (Matt Damon) is facing death and he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Damon has showed over the years that he is a great action hero, and this is set to be another of those roles for him.

Jodie Foster, Alice Braga, Sharlto Copley and William Fichtner are all also on board.

Elysium is released 21st August.

- The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (12)

We have seen a whole host of popular teen literature adapted for the big screen, and this summer sees the release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

This is the first of Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments novels to be made into a movie - and there are plans for further films should this one be a hit.

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons.

Lily Collins takes on the central role of Clary Fray and Jamie Campbell Bower will play Jace Wayland.

Lena Headey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Aidan Turner, Jared Harris and Kevin Zegers are all also on the cast list.

The Mortal Instruments already has a huge fan base because of the novels and the film looks set to be a big hit.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is released 21st August.

- The Way, Way Back (12A)

Another movie that I am looking forward to this summer is The Way, Way Back, a film that sees Nat Faxon and Jim Rash in the director's chair.

The Way, Way Back is set to be one of the coming of age movies of the year as Liam James, Steve Carell, Toni Collete, Allison Janney and Sam Rockwell make up a terrific cast list.

The Way, Way Back follows 14-year-old Duncan’s (James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin).

Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park.

Through his friendship with Owen, Duncan being to understand himself, what he wants and his place in the world.

The Way, Way Back is set to be a charming film that is unlike anything else hitting the big screen this summer.

Other movies on the horizon this month include Only God Forgives, Planes, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Lovelace and We're The Millers.
