Director Nicholas Stoller is no stranger to the comedy genre with the likes of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek under his belt, and he has returned to this genre with Bad Neighbours.
Seth Rogen is also a bit of a dab hand when it comes to comedy, but Zac Efron has not done that much during his acting career. It turns out that he is a bit of a natural, and he and Rogen make a terrific comedic team.
Mac Radner (Rogen) and his wife Kelly (Byrne) are happily married and blissfully living their suburban dream with newborn daughter Stella.
That is until Delta Psi Beta, a group of young college boys, led by the charming Teddy Sanders (Efron), move into the house next door.
Despite Mac and Kelly whacking on their caps and attempting to see the new guys on the street as an opportunity to get down-with-the-kids, the noise and relentless partying is just too much, sparking a battle for the street between the teenage bros vs. the thirty-something’s resulting in all hell breaking loose!
Bad Neighbours really is a lot of fun as it is a movie that is packed with some great performance, silly stunts and plenty of laughs.
This is one of those movies that you really can just kick back to and enjoy the very funny ride - 2014 has been a light year when it comes to great comedies, but Bad Neighbours really is one of the best that I have seen so far.
We all know how great a comedic actor Rogen is and he does give another assured and funny performance, while Efron also seems to be totally at ease with this genre.
We have seen Efron star in musicals, drama, and romance movies, and yet comedy is a genre that really does seem to fit him like a glove: it is great to see him having such a great time with a role. He gives a very funny performance.
However, it is Rose Byrne that really does still the show, as she once again shows that she is a terrific comedy actress. We got a glimpse of it in Bridesmaids, but in Bad Neighbours, it is on show for all of the world to see. I really do hope that she continues to take on more roles like this because she really is a natural.
Of course, Bad Neighbours doesn’t bring anything new to this genre, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the silliness of it. The central performance alone made Bad Neighbours well worth a watch.
