We have already looked at some of the best science fiction and superhero posters, now it is time to put horror film artwork in the spotlight.

We take a look at some of the most iconic horror posters and pick out some of our favourites.

- Poltergeist

Poltergeist was released back in 1982 and was saw Tobe Hooper in the director's chair.

Steven Spielberg had a hand in penning the screenplay and follows a family whose home is haunted by ghosts.

I personally think this poster is terrific and is incredibly chilling. Poltergeist is widely regarded as one of the best horror movies of all time.

- Rosemary's Baby

Rosemary's Baby is a movie that is nearly fifty years old, and yet it remains one of Roman Polanski's greatest movies.

The film was based on the novel by Ira Levin and follows a young woman who becomes obsessed with the safety of her unborn child.

I love the innocence that the pram symbolises & yet how that may not actually be the case.

This is one of the most recognisable horror posters and was designed by Phil Gips, who also designed posters for Alien.

- The Howling

The Howling is another great eighties horror film, which was directed by Joe Dante.

After a near fatal encounter with a serial killer, a television newswoman is sent to a remote mountain resort whose residents may not be what they seem.

'Imagine your worst fear a reality' is a terrific tag line, and this is a great poster. The poster suggests terror and violence, and that is exactly what you get with this film.

- The Evil Dead

The Evil Dead remains one of the most iconic horror movies of all time - the remake is not a patch on the Sam Raimi original.

This was the only the second feature film for director/writer Raimi, and it is still a classic.

The Evil Dead franchise has some terrific poster designs; this and the chainsaw poster really are two of the best and most iconic.

- The Exorcist

The Exorcist is another of the all-time great horror movies - the film celebrated its 40th anniversary last year.

Directed by William Friedkin, The Exorcist was an adaptation of the William Peter Blatty novel and follows the demonic possession of a twelve-year-old girl.

This is such an iconic piece of film artwork - it is an instantly recognisable poster. There is such an unnerving poster, as you don't know what is going to happen behind the door of that house.

- A Nightmare on Elm Street

Wes Craven is also a great director when it comes to horror film, and he gave us A Nightmare on Elm Street back in 1984.

This movie introduced us to the character of Freddy Krueger, who is one of horror's greatest villains.

A Nightmare on Elm Street follows a group of teenagers who are hunted and killed in their dreams. This great poster shows a boy trying to stay awake and the danger that lurks if he closes his eyes.

Other great horror movie posters include Saw, The Shining, Psycho, and Let Me In.
