Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained

Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained

Django Unchained is one of the best movies to be released so far this year and it will be heading to DVD & Blu-Ray next week.

The movie sees many of the main actors sporting some terrific facial hair and so we have taken a look at some of the great movies beards - and boy have their been some crackers!

- Leonardo DiCaprio: Django Unchained

It is not too often that we see Leo sporting a beard for his movies roles but for Django Unchained he bucked that trend.

He takes on the role of plantation owner "Monsieur" Calvin J. Candi - a man with a really nasty streak.

- Gerard Butler: 300

'We are Spartans' is the line that Gerard Butler will forever be remembered for as he roared it out time and time again throughout 300.

Lets face it Butler looked fantastic in 300 with his tightly cropped hair and well maintained beard may him look every inch the king - did I mention he was totally ripped as well?

- Ian McKellan: The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Ian McKellan is one of the greatest British actors and the role of Gandalf will forever be his most famous role.

No wizard is complete without a beard and McKellan is sporting a mighty fine one that gives him a look of authority and wisdom.

- Johnny Depp: Pirates of the Caribbean franchise

Johnny Depp is one of the very few men who can actually pull off facial hair and he sports a truly terrific beard in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Jack Sparrow is one of the most iconic film characters of the last ten years and while he may not have the biggest film beard it is those two dangly things off the end of his chin that secures him a place in the film beard hall of fame.

- Tom Hanks: Cast Away

Now being stuck on a desert island for four years is really going to see you personal grooming standards go out the window.

And Tom Hanks when above and beyond the call of duty to look incredibly disheveled in Cast Away - where he took on the role of Chuck Noland back in 2000.

But Hanks' dedication to his craft really does pay off as he was Oscar nominated for his central performance.

- Salma Hayek: Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

The very lovely Salma Hayek is the only lady to make this list as she sports a wonderful face of hair in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.

She took on the role of Madame Truska in the film - a woman who had a scissor-proof beard that she could grow as well as make disappear.

Other worthy mentions include Al Pacino in Serpico, Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski while Viggo Mortensen has grown some impressive facial hair for The Lord of the Rings, The Road, Appaloosa and A Dangerous Method.
