This year (2022) is set to be a brilliant one for cinema, with film such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Lightyear releasing in the coming months. However, there are some reboots and remakes that are sure to turn heads...

Death on the Nile – February 11th

Death on the Nile is finally on its way to cinemas after multiple delays due to COVID and, unresolved issues surrounding actor Armie Hammer. Now, the 1978 movie is getting what looks like a glamorous remake.

This film is a sequel to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, and sees Kenneth Branagh return as both director and Agatha Christie’s iconic detective, Hercule Poirot.

Death on the Nile sees a newlywed celebration ruined by a murder, and stars Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education).

Texas Chainsaw Massacre – February 18th

The umpteenth reboot of the well-known horror franchise, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, will be heading straight to Netflix upon its 2022 release.

This film will serve as a direct sequel to the original, which released in 1974. Audiences will watch a new group of young friends run into the murderous Leatherface in his hometown, but he's not the only recognisable face; the upcoming movie also stars 1974’s final girl, Sally Hardesty.

The Batman – March 4th

Batman is DC’s most iconic character. His story has been told many times, with a variety of actors wearing the cape, such as Michael Keaton, Christan Bale, and more recently Ben Affleck.

Now, Robert Pattinson has taken on the role of Bruce Wayne, and many are wondering how his version of the vigilante will go.

The Batman revolves around the titular hero and his adversary The Riddler, the villain with a thousand questions; it also seems that Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will be a somewhat dark character with many secrets stashed in his closet...

Salem’s Lot – September 9th

Moving on to later in 2022, moviegoers will see a third adaptation of Salem’s Lot release.

Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale) will be playing the role of Ben Mears, a writer who returns to the town of Salem’s Lot in order to attempt to write a new book.

However, his return reveals that the titular town has been taken over by Kurt Barlow, a horrifying vampire and iconic Stephen King villain.

Cheaper by the Dozen – TBA

The second remake of 1950 classic, Cheaper by the Dozen, will be releasing onto Disney+ sometime in 2022.

While many know the story that consists of a rather large family and the hilarious situations they get themselves into, this year’s version hopes to add a new depth and level of comedy to the story.

Zach Braff (Scrubs) and Gabrielle Union (L.A.’s Finest) are set to co-star as the heads of the crazy family.

Father of the Bride – TBA

The third cinematic adaptation of Father of the Bride will be coming to HBO Max this year, a movie based on the 1949 novel of the same name.

The 2022 remake of this feature will focus on a Cuban-American family, with its lead being portrayed by Andy Garcia (Ocean's Eleven); singer Gloria Estefan and live-action Dora the Explorer actor Isabela Merced also star.

Hellraiser – TBA

A new version of Clive Barker’s horror franchise, Hellraiser, will be heading straight to Hulu once it releases later in 2022.

Jamie Clayton (Sense8) is set to play the iconic villain; casting Clayton, a trans woman, as the well-known baddie has been praised by many. Plus, the character’s gender was never specified in Barker’s book.
