It is an exciting time for British cinema at the moment as there are a whole host of young stars that are really lighting up the big screen.

Not only are they making a name for themselves in the UK but they are also making a very big splash in the States.

So we take a look at some of the actors and actresses who are only going one way... and that is up!

- Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is one of the most exciting British actors who has enjoyed success on the big screen, TV as well as delivering great performances on the stage.

After kicking off his career TV he has moved into film with Thor being his major breakthrough.

The role of Loki really kick started things and he has since gone on to star in Midnight in Paris, The Deep Blue Sea, War Horse and the incredibly successful Avengers Assemble.

He is now one of the most in demand actors and we are going to be seeing him in London Project, Thor: The Dark World and Only Lovers Left Alive.

We are big fans of Tom Hiddleston here at FemaleFirst and he is just going to get bigger and better roles over the next couple of years.

- Benedict Cumberbatch

Another actor that everyone seems to be talking about at the moment is the fantastic Benedict Cumberbatch - and 2013 is set to be the biggest year of his career to date.

He really grabbed everyone's attention with the lead role in Sherlock Holmes for the BBC, even though he did kick off his acting career in 2002.

We have seen him in movies such as War Horse and Tinker Tailor Solider Spy in recent years but his big screen career is going to explode this summer.

Cumberbatch is the big addition to the cast list of Star Trek Into Darkness as he plays the role of John Harrison.

He has also completed work on Twelve Years A Slave and he is also set to take on the role of Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again.

He is currently filming The Fifth Estate where he will play Julian Assange.

- Eddie Redmayne

Eddie Redmayne has moved between TV and movies throughout his career as he has steadily made a name for himself.

But it is really in recent years that his career has picked up momentum with Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The Pillars of the Earth and movie My Week With Marilyn grabbing everyone's attention.

He has already enjoyed huge box office and critical success this year with Les Miserables as he took on the role of Marius - showing off his great vocal skills as well as acting talents.

And there is another huge project on the horizon for Redmayne as he looks set to star in Jupiter Ascending - which will be directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski.

Eddie Redmayne is an actor who has been there and there about's for a few years but he has finally made that crucial breakthrough and success with surely come his way.

- Juno Temple

Juno Temple is one of the most exciting British actresses around at the moment and she has been working on a wide range of projects in recent years.

She appeared in the likes of Notes on a Scandal and Atonement at the beginning of her career and now she is landing roles left, right and centre.

She delivered a terrific performance in Killer Joe last year and picked up the Rising Star Bafta earlier this year.

In 2013 she will be moving from independent projects such as Small Apartments to bigger budget films such as Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - which she is filming at the moment.

Temple is such a versatile actress and I am excited to see how her career is going to pan out over the next few years.

- Ben Whishaw

Ben Whishaw is another actor who has happily moved between TV and film projects over the years and has found success in both mediums.

Most recently we have seen in him in the likes of Skyfall and Cloud Atlas as his movie career has really taken off in 2012.

As well as mammoth film projects he also took on the role of Freddie Lyon in the hit TV series The Hour.

We will be seeing him back on the big screen later this year with The Zero Theorem which is the latest film by director Terry Gilliam.

Whishaw will also be reprising the role of Q in the next couple of Bond movies.

  • - Andrea Riseborough

We have been big fans of Andrea Riseborough here at FemaleFirst for quite some time and she is another British actor with an exciting 2013 ahead of them.

While she has mixed TV projects with film work the later is what she has concentrated on in the last couple of years.

Brighton Rock, W.E. and Resistance are the movies that really helped get her film career going and now she is moving on to bigger and better things with every film she works on.

She is back on the big screen this week as she teams up with Mark Strong and James McAvoy with Welcome To The Punch before she moves onto the blockbuster this summer.

Oblivion will kick off the summer season and it is a movie that sees her team up with Tom Cruise.

Birdman and Hidden are other movies due for release this year and Riseborough is someone to well and truly keep an eye on.

- Rafe Spall

The last twelve months has really see Rafe Spall's career soar as he has moved between big Hollywood blockbusters and smaller British projects.

He joined the stellar cast of Prometheus last summer before moving on to the terrific Life of Pi.

Into 2013 and he has already enjoyed success with comedy I Give It A Year and The F-Word is the other movie that will be released this year.

He has also been linked to projects Kill Your Friends and Son of the South so it is set to be another busy year for the talented actor.

- Nicholas Hoult

Nicholas Hoult has already scored two #1 films at the U.S. box office in 2013 as he has led the cast in Warm Bodies and Jack The Giant Slayer - so things really couldn't be going much better for the Brit star.

The days of the funny haircut in About A Boy are well and truly behind him and he is forging a very successful career for himself.

He will be back later this year as he teams up with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron for Mad Max: Fury Road.

He is currently filming Young Ones before he returns to the role of Hank McCoy in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
