Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz is one of the biggest and most successful actresses working in Hollywood today, with a range of movies under her belt.

She returns to comedy this week with new film Sex Tape: which sees her reunite with director Jake Kasdan for the first time since Bad Teacher.

We take a look back over Diaz's career and look at her movies that performed well at the box office.

- Shrek Franchise - $2,955,807,005 billion

Without a doubt, the Shrek series of movies are the most successful of Diaz's career, as she brought Princess Fiona to life.

We were introduced to Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and co for the first time back in 2001, - year is really was thirteen years ago - and kicked off one of the biggest animation franchises of all time.

Shrek was the worst performance at the box office, taking just over $484 million. Three sequels followed in 2004, 2007, and 2010: Shrek 2 was the biggest performer as it took $919 million worldwide.

The Shrek franchise was a mammoth success and grossed close to $3 billion at the box office.

- There's Something About Mary - $360,099,999 million

There's Something About Mary was released back in 1998, and contains one of Diaz's most famous movie scenes... of course, I am talking about the 'gel'.

The movie saw Peter and Robert Farrelly in the director's chair, while Matt Dillon, Ben Stiller, and Chris Elliott also starred.

There's Something About Mary helped push Diaz's star even higher as she went on to receive a Golden Globe nomination for her performance - losing out to Gwyneth Paltrow.

The film was a big box office hit as it grossed over $360 million, making it the fourth highest grossing movie of that year behind Armageddon, Saving Private Ryan, and Godzilla.

- The Mask - $351,583,40 million

The Mask was the movie that really put Diaz on the map - we all remember being introduced to the character of Tina Carlyle for the first time in that red dress.

The Mask was released back in 1994 and was based on the comic book series. Chuck Russell was in the director's chair, while Jim Carrey took on the title role.

The Mask marked the acting debut of Diaz, and it really was the movie that launched her acting career - a career that is still going strong twenty years later.

The movie took over $351 million worldwide, making it the second highest grossing superhero film at the time, behind Batman.

- My Best Friend's Wedding - $298,923,419 million

In 1997, Diaz was still building her acting profile, and My Best Friend's Wedding was another perfect role for the up and coming actress.

She took on a supporting role in the film, alongside Julia Roberts, Rupert Everett, and Dermot Mulroney.

Diaz took on the role of Kimmy Wallace - who enjoys some great moments in the film including singing in a karaoke bar and a face to face with 'best friend' Julianne Potter (Roberts).

The movie was a critical and commercial hit and went on to gross over $298 million: the eighth highest grossing movies of the year.

- Knight and Day - $262,142,047 million

Cameron Diaz reunited with Tom Cruise back in 2010 when they starred in action film Knight and Day.

The movie was directed by James Mangold and followed June, who gets mixed up with a disgraced spy who is trying to clear his name.

Cruise and Diaz were joined by a terrific supporting cast as Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis and Paul Dano were all also on board.

I have to say, I thought Knight and Day was terrible, but it still took over $262 million at the global box office.

- Charlie's Angels - $259,736,090 million

It was back in 2000 when we saw Charlie's Angels return to the big screen with McG in the director's chair.

Diaz teams up with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as Angels Natalie Cook, Dylan Sanders, and Alex Munday. Bill Murray and Sam Rockwell completed a great line-up.

This was a great action role for Diaz, and a brand new female driven franchise was born. A sequel would follow three years later: that would be the last Charlie's Angels film to hit the big screen.

Other Cameron Diaz movies that have performed well include Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, What Happens in Vegas... and The Holiday.

Sex Tape is released 5th September.
