Dave Bautista

Dave Bautista

There have been many actors signing on the dotted line this week as there have been some exciting announcements for some great future projects.

But it has not just been all about the actors this week as there have also been some interesting developments for a directing stand-point with some filmmakers on board while other rules themselves out.

- There has been a lot of talk about the Guardians of the Galaxy project over the last few weeks and while we have had lots of casting speculation in that time we finally got a solid piece of casting news this week.

Dave Bautista has been cast in the latest Marvel movie and will take on the role of Drax the Destroyer. The former wrestler is not stranger to the big screen with roles in The Man in the Iron Fists and Riddick.

The cast list for the movie is still in its very early stages but we do know that James Gunn is in the director’s chair and this film is scheduled to hit the big screen in the summer of next year.

- You have got to love a bit of Robert Duvall, he really is a terrific actor, and he has signed on to star in The Judge this week.

Duvall is only the second name to join The Judge cast list as he is set to star alongside the fantastic Robert Downey Jr.

David Dobkin is in the director’s chair and filming on the movie is set to get underway later this year.

- Saoirse Ronan will be back on the big screen later this month for sci-fi/drama The Host but she has also been linked to the lead role in Cinderella.

While the actress has denied that she has been in talks for the movie she was believed to be the front runner for the role after Emma Watson left the project.

- X-Men: Days of Future Past has already got a very impressive line-up but Daniel Cudmore is the latest name that has been added to the cast list.

He will reprise the role of Colossus from X2 and X: Men The Last Stand while Fan Bingbing and Booboo Stewart are also on board.

Earlier this week it was reported that Alan Cumming would also be back as Nightcrawler only for those reports to be denied twenty four hours later.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles from X-Men: First Class while franchise favourites Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman will be returning as Professor X, Magneto and Wolverine.

- There is also some big directing new as Colin Trevorrow has been named as the director for Jurassic Park 4.

There has been much talk about another Jurassic Park for some time but now it seems that project is really picking up pace with Trevorrow on board.

Steven Spielberg announced back in 2011 that the movie had been given the green light but Trevorrow’s appointment as director does come as a surprise.

Jurassic Park 4 would only be his second big screen directorial outing - his debut coming last year in Safety Not Guaranteed.

- There has been much talk about who will helm Bond 24 since Sam Mendes announced that he would not be returning to the director’s chair.

Danny Boyle is just one of the names that have been linked to the directing vacancy in the last week but the Oscar winning filmmaker has ruled himself out of the race.

Boyle was linked to Bond not long after he won the Best Director Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire and his name had been thrown into the mix once again.

But Boyle ruled himself out when he told fans in an hour long ‘Conversation With Danny Boyle’ in New York ‘I prefer to have a ceiling. A ceiling that is limiting us and you try to break through.’

- Tom Hooper has already enjoyed huge success this year when he helmed the adaptation of hit musical Les Miserables - which was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar - and now it looks like a Freddie Mercury biopic could be on the cards.

Hooper is believed to be the first choice of the studio to helm the movie that has been written by Peter Morgan - he wrote the script for Frost/Nixon.

Robert De Niro would be one of the producers on the film while Sacha Baron Cohen has been linked to the central role of Freddie Mercury.

The movie is expected to focus on the career of Queen up until 1985 and their iconic performance at Live Aid.
