Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Chris Hemsworth is back on the big screen this week as he reprises the role of Thor in Thor: The Dark World - the second solo movie for this much-loved character.

Thor: The Dark World is the first time that Hemsworth has taken on the title role since the huge box office success of Avengers Assemble last summer - this sequel looks set to be another box office hit for the actor.

Autumn 2013 has already been a busy period for Hemsworth after the actor starred in Rush: a movie that saw him team up with actor Daniel Bruhl and director Ron Howard. The movie was set in the world of Formula and followed the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda: a rivalry that helped make the sport what it is.

Hemsworth took on the role of British driver Hunt in the film while Bruhl took on the role of Lauda. The movie was met with critical acclaim: the portrayals of both Hunt and Lauda were heavily praised.

Hemsworth is not back in Thor: The Dark World, a movie that sees him reunite with Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins.

Thor: The Dark World is the second of Marvel’s Phase Two of films - coming after Iron Man 3 earlier this year. The movie hits the big screen today and it really is an action packed and funny watch: this really is one not to miss.

If you are a Hemsworth fan then you are in for a treat as he has a series of very exciting projects in the pipeline over the next year.

Hemsworth has already completed work on crime/drama Cyber, a movie that sees him team up with director Michael Mann for the first time.

Mann has worked with Morgan Davis Foehl on the screenplay, which follows American and Chinese forces as they team up to solver a computer hacking case.

Hemsworth will lead the cast list and will be joined by Viola Davis, William Mapother and Manny Montana. Cyber will be hitting the big screen next year.

There is no rest for the Aussie actor as he is currently working on his new project Heart of the Sea: a film that sees him reunite with director Ron Howard.

Heart of the Sea is a big screen adaptation of the novel In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick. Set in 1820 the movie will tell the story of the Essex, an American whaling ship that was attacked by a Sperm Whale.

Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland, Ben Whishaw, Brendan Gleeson and Benjamin Walker join Hemsworth on the cast list: Walker will play the ship’s captain while Hemsworth will play first mate Owen Chase.

Hemsworth will be returning to the role of Thor at the beginning of next year when film on The Avengers: Age of Ultron gets underway. Age of Ultron is the second Avengers movie and is already one of the most anticipated films of 2015.

Joss Whedon will be back in the director’s chair, while Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner will be reprising their roles of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye.

James Spader has been cast in the role of Ultron, while Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are on board as Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver.

Avengers Assemble was the biggest grossing movie of 2012 as it smashed through the billion-dollar barrier: it went on to become the third biggest movie of all time.

With the excitement that is already building around Avengers: Age of Ultron that success looks set to be repeated. However, we are going to have to wait until summer 2015 until the movie hits the big screen.

Hemsworth also looks set to reprise his role of the huntsman in the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel. Nothing is known about the plot but Kristen Stewart also looks set to return. The movie is expected to also hit the big screen in 2015.

Chris Hemsworth has seen his star rocket over recent years and he has now become one of the most in demand and popular actors in Hollywood. With a string of big and exciting movie on the horizon, Hemsworth’s star is only going one way… and that is up.

Thor: The Dark World is out now.
