Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz

To celebrate the release of Gambit starring Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, and Alan Rickman out on DVD and Blu-Ray 4 March 2013 courtesy of Momentum Pictures we are going to examine the on-screen romances of Colin Firth and the most powerful women in Hollywood who Firth has co-starred next too.

Gambit follows Harry Deane (Firth) an Art curator for media tycoon Lord Lionel Shahbandar (Rickman). In a devious plan to con his boss Deane partners with the beautiful rodeo star PJ Puznowski (Diaz) but things go awry when Lord Lionel Shahbandar begins to fall for Puznowski.

Watch the brilliant performances by Firth and Diaz in this deceitful, lovely, charming comedy.

Cameron Diaz is not the first beautiful woman to star along Colin Firth.

Colin Firth has played in a plethora of different roles and always seems to be lucky enough to star amongst the greatest actresses in Hollywood. Here are a few of our favourite Firth on-screen romances!

- Renee Zellweger - Bridget Jones's Diary

Colin Firth’s most famous on screen romance is in the hilarious British romantic comedy, Bridget Jones's Diary starring Oscar winner and Oscar nominated (for her part in this role) Renee Zellweger.

Bridget Jones's Diary follows Zellweger’s character Bridget Jones as she falls in love with her boss (played by Hugh Grant) who is ex-friends with family friend (played by Colin Firth).

Her boss’s playboy attitude makes their relationship not work in the end but her relationship with Firth proves opposites attract and that it is for the best. They both deliver an excellent and hilarious performance.

- Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech

Helena Bonham Carter is one of the UK’s finest and most successful actresses. She is known in Hollywood for her unique roles and great versatility.

Colin Firth co-stars next to Helena in the Oscar-winning picture, The King’s Speech. Helena is the supportive wife, Queen Elizabeth and goes to the extremes of helping her husband The King (played by Firth) to overcome his fear of public speaking.

Colin won an Oscar for this role and Helena was nominated for best supporting actress. Their on-screen relationship was dynamic and perfect giving a great portrayal of the events in the past.

- Uma Thurman - The Accidental Husband

Oscar nominated Uma Thurman is the next to star alongside Firth. The Accidental Husband is a great romantic comedy where Thurman’s character is about to wed Firth’s character until she finds out she was accidently married early in her life.

Thurman is most famous for her roles in Tarantino’s action packed films such as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

Who better to have an on-screen romance with in one of her first romantic comedies than with the brilliant Colin Firth.

- Meryl Streep - Mama Mia

The most powerful women in Hollywood- three time Oscar winner, Meryl Streep, plays Firth’s ex-lover in the fantastic musical Mama Mia!

Once lovers they are reunited by her daughter’s quest to find her true father and re-ignite the passion between her mother and ex-lover.

This movie is great fun for the whole family with classic tunes to sing along to and an amazing chemistry between Firth and Streep.

- Cameron Diaz - Gambit

Cameron Diaz has been nominated for the golden globes and played in a variety of roles from romantic comedies to serious dark films. She has beautiful looks and great acting skills making her an A-lister in Hollywood for over a decade.

With her great looks and hilarious personality her on-screen romance with Firth in Gambit is one for the books.

This scheming romantic comedy is one for the whole family. Firth and Diaz’s on-screen romance is impeccable.

Don’t miss this hilarious, cunning movie with an all-star cast and another brilliant leading lady Firth can add to his list of remarkable co-stars.
