We are going to be treated to a whole host of great biopic movies this year and Trumbo is one of the first in this genre that's not to be missed.

Trumbo

Trumbo has hit the big screen this morning and sees Bryan Cranston - who we are a big fan of here at FemaleFirst - take on the central role of Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

This is the first time that we have seen Cranston on the big screen since Godzilla and Trumbo sees him team up with Oscar winner Helen Mirren. And it is Mirren who takes centre stage in this exclusive new clip from the film. Check it out:

Trumbo marks the return of Jay Roach to the director's chair. He has brought us films such as Dinner for Schmucks and Meet the Fockers in recent years, but this is his first feature film since The Campaign back in 2012.

I am excited to see the director move away from the comedy genre and tackle the biopic for the first time.

Roach has brought together an impressive cast as Cranston and Mirren are joined by Diane Lane, Louis C.K. Elle Fanning, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Alan Tudyk, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

The successful career of 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Cranston) comes to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs.

Trumbo tells the story of his fight against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over words and freedom, which entangled everyone in Hollywood from Hedda Hopper (Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger.

Cranston is in the Best Actor Oscar mix for his central performance. Mirren has also picked up award nominations with Best Supporting Actress nods at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Trumbo is out now.
