The first trailer for Wild has been released by Fox Searchlight, and it marks the return of Reese Witherspoon.

Wild sees Witherspoon team up with director Jean Marc-Vallee for the first time, in what is his first film since the success of Dallas Buyers Club at the beginning of the year.

I have been looking forward to this film for some time, and I can't wait to see Witherspoon undertake this journey of self-discovery.

The movie is based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed, who set out on a 1,100-mile trek to deal with the death of her mother and the end of her marriage.

Wild looks like it is going to be an emotional and riveting watch, and here it the first trailer to take a look at:

Nick Hornby is best known for his books A Long Way Down and About A Boy - which have been adapted into films - but he has penned the screenplay for Wild.

Wild is the first screenplay for Hornby since he penned An Education back in 2009.

While Witherspoon will carry this film, she is joined on the cast list by Gaby Hoffmann, Laura Dern, and Michiel Huisman.

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Witherspoon) has lost all hope.

After years of reckless, destructive behaviour, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.

Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

Wild is released 23rd January.
