With May 2018 right around the corner, we’ve decided to look ahead and pick out just five of the films dropping in the new month that we can’t wait to settle down and see. There are Marvel characters, an origins story for one of the fan-favourites from the Star Wars universe and much more on the way, so without delay, here are our top 5 picks for movies to watch this May!

5) Tully – In cinemas from Friday, May 4, 2018

Charlize Theron steps into the role of mother-of-three Marlo in upcoming comedy Tully, but finds help in the film’s titular night nanny, played by Mackenzie Davis. The two form a unique bond through their working relationship, in what looks to be one of the most promising funny flicks of the year.

Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody, the movie also stars big names such as Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston, and saw Theron really change her complete body shape for the role.

4) Breaking In – In cinemas from Friday, May 11, 2018

Gabrielle Union leads what looks to be one of the most intense thrillers set for release this year in Breaking In. Forced to fight against home invaders in a bid to protect not only herself, but her family, Union takes on the role of Shaun Russell; a mother who will stop at nothing to rescue her two kids who are being held hostage inside a house that’s designed to be impenetrable.

James McTeigue directs the movie, with Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Ajiona Alexus, Levi Meaden, Jason George, Seth Karr, and Christa Miller all also starring.

3) Life of the Party – In cinemas from Friday, May 11, 2018

Melissa McCarthy leads upcoming comedy Life Of The Party, stepping into the role of housewife Deanna; a woman who’s suddenly dumped by her long-time husband, and so decides to go back to college. When she lands up in the same class and school as her daughter however, it would seem not everybody is sold on the idea of her reliving her youth! Despite that, Deanna – now Dee Rock – goes ahead with her plan to reinvent her life, enjoying her new freedom and the chance to do things on her own terms.

McCarthy wrote the movie alongside her husband Ben Falcone, with the two also producing through their production company On The Day. Other big names starring in the film include Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Matt Walsh, Julie Bowen, Molly Gordon, Stephen Root, Jacki Weaver, Jessie Ennis, Debby Ryan, Adria Arjona, and Jimmy O. Yang.

2) Deadpool 2 – In cinemas from Wednesday, May 16, 2018

The Merc with the Mouth is back, and Ryan Reynolds is stepping right back into the titular role when Deadpool 2 finally swings into cinemas. This time round, he’ll be joined by newcomers Domino and Cable, played by Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin respectively, and the movie looks to be just as funny, if not more hilarious than the first!

Marvel took a big risk when they allowed Deadpool to come to the big screen, but following the huge success of the first film, they had no choice but to allow a series to be born. Reynolds has perfect comic timing in his role, and it’s going to be exciting to see him spend another couple of hours on screen as Wade Wilson.

1) Solo: A Star Wars Story – In cinemas from Thursday, May 24, 2018

Harrison Ford may be the man to thank for bringing such life to Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise, but when we go back in time to find out the origins of the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it’ll be Alden Ehrenreich slotting into the role. Starring alongside the likes of Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke, Paul Bettany, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, and Jon Favreau in the movie, those who have often wondered just how Solo came to be the man we see in the Star Wars series should be getting some answers this May.

Solo has been through some interesting behind-the-scenes developments when it came time to putting a film together, but it would seem that the movie is now set to take the world by storm. Not everybody is sold on the idea completely, but we’re sure that when Solo does release, we’ll all be falling in love with the younger version of the charming pilot.
