The Hangover Part III

When watching the last installment of a film series the last thing you want is a damp squib.

You want a fitting farewell to characters and settings that are etched in movie history and none more so than in the hugely popular Hangover trilogy which comes to an end this month. So lets take a look at the best movies that go out on a high and save the best for last.

- Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Peter Jackson’s Tolkien trilogy was undoubtedly one of the film highlights of the last decade. The first two films received rave reviews and had audiences flocking to Middle Earth.

The Return of The King provided a booming climax and triumphant goodbye to iconic characters such as Gandalf, Gollum and Frodo. Quite simply, Peter Jackson created an epic conclusion to an epic series.

- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

We’d be pretty surprised if you weren’t whistling that classic theme tune by now. Sergio Leone’s final installment in the Dollar trilogy is a real classic of cinema and regarded as one of the greatest Spaghetti Westerns ever made.

The Man with No Name bows out in a in a powerful masterpiece of filmmaking that arguably defines the genre.

- Dark Knight Rises

Batman Begins was great. The Dark Knight was incredible. Consequently, there was a lot resting on the shoulders of Christopher Nolan to ensure this Batman revamp didn’t whimper away.

Bruce Wayne became Batman yet again and with the help of fearless feline, Catwoman and a courageous cop named Robin this franchise finished in enthralling style.

- The Bourne Ultimatum

Granted there has been a fourth film in the Bourne series but The Bourne Ultimatum is the final installment with Matt Damon playing Jason Bourne and it is often considered the best.

This is an exhilarating thrill ride of a conclusion in which Bourne has to piece together the mystery of his past.

- Return of the Jedi

1983 saw the release of one of cinema’s greatest ever endings to a trilogy. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo all returned to fight the grotesque Jabba the Hut.

It may split some but we feel that the exceptional story coupled with stunning visual effects means that this is a fantastic ending to the films. In the style of Yoda, ‘Love it we do’.

- Toy Story 3

If you didn’t well up just a little at this film I think it’s fair to say you have a heart of stone. Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang returned to the big screen for the first time in over ten years and we weren’t disappointed! An evil bear that smells of strawberries, Barbie’s dream house and Spanish Buzz... what more could you want?

Make sure you catch, The Hangover Part III, the final chapter of the trilogy, which comes out in cinemas on 24th May. It all ends, the characters you love return and erm... a decapitated giraffe stars.
