Ghostbusters

Director: Paul Feig

Rating: 3.5/5

To say that there has been a backlash to the new Ghostbusters movie and the all-female line-up has been a bit of an understatement. The movie is finally here and sees Paul Feig back in the director's chair.

I believe in waiting to see something before judging it... and the new Ghostbusters film really is a whole lot of fun with four great actresses on top comedy form.

Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today--Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they're here to save the world!

I have to say, McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones are the best thing about this film. They have thrown themselves into the role and have clearly had a blast from start to finish.

There is wonderful chemistry between the four women and they do make a wonderful comedic team. For me, McKinnon is the standout star and is just fantastic with her slightly OTT and eccentric performance as Jillian Holtzmann.

There's a mad professor feel to her role and you never quite know what she's going to do next or what is going to come out of her mouth.

Yes, this is a reboot of the popular franchise but Feig has made a movie that is more than capable of standing on its own two feet. Of course, there are some nod backs to the original movies, but Feig finds the perfect balance between originality and not forgetting the past.

Ghostbusters offers us great new characters that feel fresh and vibrant as well as a fast-paced story that is packed with some terrific visuals... but it is made in the spirit of the original and that gives this film a real charm.

For those of us who love the original film, it may not necessarily live up to what has gone before, but then it never really tries to. Feig and co have been confident to craft a movie that can stand perfectly well by itself.

This is a film that is packed with great moments, laughs and really is a whole lot of fun - which is what you want from a comedy at this time of year. When you sit down to watch a Ghostbusters film, you want to be entertained and have a good time... and that is exactly what this movie delivers.

I have to admit, I did not know what to expect when I watched this new Ghostbusters film, but I am thrilled to say that I was not left disappointed. It is great to see this franchise back on the big screen.

Ghostbusters is out now.
