Telling the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), Hacksaw Ridge follows the young man who saved 75 fellow men without firing or carrying a gun during the bloodiest battle of World War II in Okinawa. You can check out a clip exclusive to Female First below, going behind-the-scenes of the film and featuring Mel Gibson, Andrew Garfield and Teresa Palmer as they discuss how the movie doesn’t just tell a story of war, but one of love:

Working as a medic in the army, Desmond Doss was the sole person responsible for evacuating the wounded whilst behind enemy lines, braving enemy fire whilst tending to soldiers and even being wounded himself by a grenade and shots from snipers.

He became the first conscientious objector awared the Congressional Medal of Honor in his lifetime.

Hacksaw Ridge is available now on DVD and Blu-ray.
