Hello I Must Be Going

Starring: Melanie Lynskey, Blythe Danner, John Rubinstein, Christopher Abbott

Director: Todd Louiso

Rating: 4/5

Todd Louiso returns to the director's chair with his new film Hello I Must Be Going; a film which is on the programme at the UK Jewish Film Festival.

Melanie Lynskey delivers a heart-breaking performance as Amy Mitzky, a newly divorced 30-something woman, forced to live with her parents again, and joyfully shaken back to life by Jeremy, the 19 year-old son of her parents’ friends, who she’s been asked to show around town.

He’s soulful and gorgeous in his dreams of their future together; she’s just learning how to dream again and what her dreams could be.

If you are looking for a romance movie then this is a film that you should definitely check out as it is a sweet and sincere film.

Melanie Lynskey is best known for her comedic role as Rose in Two and A Half Men, but she delivers a breakthrough performance in the central role of Amy.

This is a coming of age story of sorts as Amy has to try and find her own way in the world after a divorce that has shattered her world.

Hello I Must Be Going is a character study that does tackle some interesting issues, and yet it is a movie that never pretends to have all of the answers.

Amy is a rather needy woman and she could have been quite an irritating character. And yet Lynskey has played her in way that is incredibly appealing as she is someone who is truly struggling to get her life back on track.

Lynskey is simply terrific and this role really does show her in a different light as an actress. She gives a subtle, tender and heartfelt performance.

There are also some great supporting performances from Blythe Danner and John Rubinstein; they play Amy's mother and father.

Hello I Must Be Going is touching and heartfelt and it really is an honest story; I think it will be a tale that many will be able to relate to.

But the film succeeds almost entirely on the strength of the central performance from Lynskey - I hope that she takes on more roles like this going forward as she really is terrific.

Hello I Must Be Going will be screened at the UK Jewish Film Festival on 2nd and 16th November.
