22 Jump Street will hit the big screen at the end of the week, and it promises to be one of the must comedy films of the summer.

Over the years, we have been treated to some great movies in this genre, and we take a look at some that performed incredibly well at the box office.

- Men In Black 3 - $624 million

It was back in 2120 that we saw the Men In Black return to the big screen for the first time since in ten years: yes, it was 2002 when Men in Black 2 hit the big screen.

Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones were back as J and K, while Barry Sonnenfeld was in the director's chair.

There were also some great new additions to the cast list, in the form of Emma Thompson & Josh Brolin.

This third instalment of the franchise was a massive box office hit at the beginning of summer 2012; as it went on to gross over $624 million.

Not only was Men In Black 3 the highest grossing film in the MIB franchise, but it was also the tenth highest grossing movie of that year.

- Men In Black - $589 million

It was back in 1997 when we were introduced to Agents J and K on the big screen for the first time, as Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones joined forces.

Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the movie followed an NYPD officer who is recruited to the secret MIB organisation to do battle with aliens.

The movie was based on the comic book series by Lowell Cunningham, and was adapted for the big screen by Ed Solomon.

Men In Black was a big box office success, grossing $589 million worldwide. It was the third highest grossing movie of that year behind Titanic and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

- The Hangover: Part II - $581 million

The Hangover: Part II was one of the most anticipated films of 2011, after the success of the first film two years earlier.

The movie saw Todd Phillips back in the director's chair, while Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, and Ken Jeong were all back.

Fans of the first film flocked to the box office when the film hit the big screen, and it went on to gross over $581 million: despite not being a patch on its predecessor.

It finished the year as the eighth highest grossing film, behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Kung Fu Panda, and Fast five.

- Night At The Museum - $574 million

Ben Stiller has been part of some great comedy movies over the years, but Night At The Museum has been one of the most successful.

Released back in 2006, we saw Stiller team up with filmmaker Shawn Levy, as he brought Milan Trenc's book of the same name to the big screen.

Stiller took on the central role of Larry Daley a night security guard who discovers all the museum exhibits some to life at night.

The movie was a box office smash, taking $574 million at the global box office. The second film was also a huge success, while the third instalment will hit the big screen later this year.

- Meet The Fockers - $515 million

Another Stiller franchise that has been a massive success is Meet The Parents: which was released back in 2000.

Meet The Fockers was the second instalment of the comedy franchise, and was released five years after the first.

Directed by Jay Roach, the movie follows Greg Focker as he introduces the Byrnes family to his parents for the first time. As you can imagine, all hell breaks loose.

Meet The Fockers was big box office success that year, as it took over $515 million: easily surpassing the $330 million total posted by Meet The Parents.

- Ted - $549 million

Ted was one of the most talked about films of 2012, as Seth MacFarlane made his feature film directorial debut.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, the movie follows the character of John Bennett, who wishes his teddy bear to life as a child... only to have it come true.

As well as being in the director's chair, MacFarlane also voiced the character of Ted, while Mila Kunis was also on board.

Ted was a critical and commercial smash, as the film took over $549 million at the global box office.

Ted may not have made it into the top ten highest grossing films of 2012, but it was one of the most successful comedy movies of that year.

- Home Alone - $476 million

Home Alone is widely regarded as one of the best comedy movies of all time: it will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary next year.

Chris Columbus was in the director's chair, while Macaulay Culkin took on the central role of Kevin.

Kevin is left accidentally left behind when his family go on holiday for Christmas, and has to defend his home from burglars.

Home Alone took over $476 million at the global box office, and spawned a series of sequel: none of them ever lived up to the first.

- The Hangover - $467 million

The Hangover was released back in 2009, and is one of the best comedy movies of recent years.

Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha, while Todd Phillips is in the director's chair.

The movie followed four friends as they headed out to Las Vegas for a bachelor party - however, chaos descends when they lose the groom.

The Hangover was one of the sleeper hits of the year, as the film took $467 million at the global box office. As well as raking in the cash, it also won over the critics.

Two sequels have followed it has become one of the most successful comedy franchises of all time: however, the first film is still the best.

Other comedy movies that performed well include Mrs Doubtfire, The Proposal, and 21 Jump Street.
