Mr Morgan's Last Love

Mr Morgan's Last Love

Michael Caine is one of cinema's greatest icons and one of the best actors that this country has ever produced.

Caine returns to the big screen this week as he stars in Mr Morgan's Last Love - his first big screen outing of 2014.

Caine has enjoyed an acting career that has spanned over sixty years, and we take a look at his most successful films at the box office.

- The Dark Knight Rises - $1,084 billion

The Dark Knight Rises was one of the most anticipated films of 2012, as it was the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Fans were still raving about the epicness of The Dark Knight, and were hoping for more of the same with this next instalment.

While The Dark Knight Rises didn't quite hit the dizzy heights of its predecessor, it most certainly did not disappoint.

The movie saw Caine reprise the role of butler Alfred: some of the best and most emotional moments between Alfred & Bruce Wayne came in this film.

The Dark Knight Rises stormed to the top of the box office around the globe, and became the second film in the franchise to surpass the $1 billion barrier.

The Dark Knight Rises was the most successful instalment, and brought Nolan's trilogy to a close with a bang.

- The Dark Knight - $1,004 billion

The Dark Knight hit the big screen back in 2008, and was a movie that really raised the bar for superhero movies.

Christopher Nolan was back in the director's chair, while Christian Bale reprised the role of Bruce Wayne for the second time. The movie also introduced up to Heath Ledger's interpretation of the Joker.

Caine returned to the role of Alfred, and we saw real banter between him and Bruce this time around: Caine & Bale really do make an excellent team.

The Dark Knight is an uncompromising, ambitious, and complex morality tale that was written and directed more for an adult audience; which is the first time in a long time that this has happened.

The critics raved about it when the film was released, and it went on to break through the $1 billion barrier at the box office.

The Dark Knight is widely regarded as the best superhero movie of all time, and I am not about to argue with that!!

- Inception - $825 million

Caine and Nolan have become frequent collaborators, and they teamed up again in 2010 for sci-fi Inception.

Caine only has a very small role in the film, but it is a role in the film nonetheless. And it is a terrific film.

Inception is a smart, fast-paced, and innovative sci-fi/thriller that is truly a bold piece of cinema.

Inception is a maze from the off, as Nolan adds layer upon layer to the story as the audience takes a trip into a dream world and an exploration of the subconscious.

This was one of the best sci-fi films to hit the big screen in 2010, and it was a big a critical hit as it was at the box office.

Inception grossed over $825 million worldwide, and was one of the most successful films of the year.

- Batman Begins - $371 million

It was back in 2005 when Christopher Nolan resurrected Batman on the big screen... and no one had any idea just how great a franchise it was going to be.

Christian Bale was on board as Bruce Wayne, while we were introduced to Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman as Alfred, Jim Gordon, and Lucius Fox for the first time.

Batman Begins was the fourth feature film of Nolan's directing career, and the first time that he had tackled a big budget blockbuster.

This was also the first time that Nolan had worked with Caine - this kicked off a great partnership between the director and actor.

Batman Begins was an origins story: it explored Wayne's past as well as watching him step out as Batman for the first time.

The Batman franchise was in a bad way after Batman & Robin was released in 2007, but Nolan really did get this popular franchise back on track.

The movie grossed over $371 million at the global box office, and kicked off what was to be a hugely successful franchise.

- Now You See Me - $351 million

Caine joined the ensemble cast of Now You See me last year, as he starred alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, and Isla Fisher: it was one of the best cast lists of last summer.

Directed by Louis Leterrier, Now You See Me followed an FBI agent and Interpol detective as they track down a team of illusionists who are pulling off bank heists during their performances.

Now You See Me was completely different to everything else that hit the big screen last summer, and it went on to enjoy success.

This is a movie of smoke and mirrors and is a crime caper that really works. Magic movies are always a lot of fun, and Now You See Me continues that fine tradition.

The film went on to gross over $351 million at the global box office and a sequel is already in the pipeline.

Mr Morgan's Last Love is released 11th July.
