It is that time of year again when we learn which actors have made the most money during the last twelve months.

Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr has topped the Forbes list for the third year in the row, showing that is the most popular and bankable actor working in Hollywood at the moment.

Six of the top ten were made up by American actors but the list included three Bollywood stars for the first time as the list was extended to feature international actors.

- Robert Downey Jr $80 million

Robert Downey Jr is a big favourite here at FemaleFirst and he has had another terrific year at the box office - largely thanks to the success of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The actor, who reprised the role of Tony Stark for the first time since Iron Man 3 back in 2013, took home a whopping $80 million over the last year - which put him comfortably at the top of the Hollywood tree for the third year in a row.

Age of Ultron has grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office and is the third Marvel film starring Downey Jr to gross over $1 billion - the others being Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3.

While the Marvel Universe movies have been taking up a lot of Downey Jr's time in recent years, we also saw the actor appear in Chef and star in The Judge last year.

And we are going to be seeing Downey Jr back as Iron Man next year with Captain America: Civil War - which sees him step into the Captain America franchise for the first time. Civil War is already being tipped as one of the highest grossing movies of 2016 and may well ensure that Downey Jr takes this crown for a fourth time.

- Jackie Chan $50 million

When it comes to action stars, there is none bigger or more popular than Jackie Chan and he has enjoyed another terrific year at the box office.

Sadly, we haven't seen too much of him on the big screen here in the UK, but his last film Dragon Blade has been a huge hit at the Chinese box office.

The movie, which sees Chan star alongside John Cusack, Adrien Brody, Si Won Choi, and Peng Lin, grossed over $120 million in China and secured Chan's second place on the list of highest paid actors of 2015.

And more success is set to come Chan's way over the next year or so with work on Skiptrace and Kung Fun Panda 3 already completed. A second Karate Kid movie is supposed to be in the pipeline with Chan set to return as Mr. Han. However, it is a project that has suffered a few setbacks so we are going to have to wait and see if that materialises.

- Vin Diesel $47 million

Vin Diesel has enjoyed huge success at the box office over the last twelve months and he has finished third on the highest paid actors list as he took home $47 million.

Following on from the success of Guardians of the Galaxy last year, Diesel has enjoyed another box office hit, in the form of Fast & Furious 7.

Fast & Furious 7 was the last time that we were going to see Paul Walker on the big screen and fans around the world flocked to see the latest instalment of the popular franchise.

As well as winning over the critics, Fast & Furious 7 has grossed over $1.511 billion at the global box office. Not only is it the highest grossing film in the series so far, but it is also the second highest grossing movie of the year behind Jurassic World and ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

And we are going to be seeing more of Diesel later this year as he is set to star in The Last Witch Hunter. An eighth Fast & Furious film is also believed to be in the pipeline.

- Bradley Cooper $41.5 million

Bradley Cooper has come in fourth having made a very healthy $41.5 million from his movie work so far this year.

American Sniper was the last time that we saw Cooper on the big screen here in the UK - the U.S. have since seen him star in Aloha - which was both a critical and commercial success.

The movie saw Cooper team up with director Clint Eastwood for the first time as they brought the true story of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle to the big screen. The movie was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Cooper.

2015 is another busy year for Cooper as we are going to see him in Aloha, and TV series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.

The actor has also completed work on Joy, which sees him reunite with Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and director David O. Russell. The movie isn't released until January, but it is already being tipped as an early Oscar contender.

- Adam Sandler $41 million

Adam Sandler is always there or thereabouts when this list is published and he is in at number five this year.

The funnyman, who has enjoyed huge success at the U.S. box office over the years, took home $41 million this year.

It has been a little quiet for Sandler on the big screen so far this year, but he has signed on to make four films with Netflix this year. However, he will be back later this summer as he teams up with Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, and Josh Gad for Pixels.

This autumn sees Sandler voice the character of Dracula once again as Hotel Transylvania 2 hits the big screen. Sandler has also completed work on comedy/Western The Ridiculous 6.

The actor is currently filming new comedy The Do Over, which sees him team up with director Steven Brill. Paula Patton and David Spade are also set to star in the film.

- Tom Cruise $40 million

It has been another great year for Tom Cruise, who features at six on the highest paid actors list with $40 million.

Cruise has returned to the big screen this summer with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which has topped the box office in U.S. and UK. As well as reprising the role of Ethan Hunt, Cruise is also serving as producer on the film, which will help his bottom line.

Rogue Nation has only just been released but there is already talk of another Mission: Impossible film. Cruise has also voiced his desire for a second Edge of Tomorrow movie and a Top Gun sequel has been talked about for some time.

All through his career, Cruise has enjoyed box office success and that doesn't look set to change any time soon.

The rest of the top ten is completed by Amitabh Bachchan ($33.5 million), Salman Khan ($33.5 million), Akshay Kumar ($32.5 million), and Mark Wahlberg ($32 million).
