Inside Llewyn Davis

Inside Llewyn Davis

Inside Llewyn Davis marks the return of Joel and Ethan Coen to the director’s chair - the siblings who have made one of the best movie-making teams of recent years.

The Coen brothers have proved to be Oscar favourites with nominations and wins for the likes of True Grit and No Country For Old Men.

This is the first film for Joel and Ethan Coen since the success of their fantastic adaptation of Western True Grit back at the beginning of 2011.

Inside Llewyn Davis sees them move away from the Western genre and return character driven drama with a film that is set in the sixties.

Inside Llewyn Davis follows a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.

Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles... some of them of his own making.

The movie sees Oscar Isaac take on the title character of Llewyn Davis as he teams up with the Coen brothers for the first time.

Isaac has roles in the likes of The Bourne Legacy and Robin Hood in recent years, but this could well be the movie and the role that is the breakthrough performance for the actor.

Isaac is joined by an all-star cast as Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman and Ethan Phillips are all on the cast list.

Inside Llewyn Davis is a film that has been playing successfully on the festival circuit since the Cannes Film Festival of 2013; it was at that festival that it received its premiere.

The movie won the Grand Prix prize at the Cannes Film Festival and it has already picked up a handful of Independent Spirit Award nominations, including Best Feature, Best Male Lead and Best Cinematography.

The Oscar nominations are just around the corner and Inside Llewyn Davis and Joel and Ethan Coen could be in the mix.

Inside Llewyn Davis is released 24th January 2014
