Musicals are not the most common genre on the big screen at the moment, but one that we will not be missing at the beginning of next year is Into The Woods - it really does look like it is going to be a whole lot of fun.

Into The Woods

Into The Woods is another movie that is set to boasts one hell of a cast, while Rob Marshall is back in the director's chair for the first time since the box office success of Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides back in 2011.

Marshall is no stranger to the musical with Nine and Chicago under his belt, but Into The Woods is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim and has been adapted for the best screen by James Lapine.

The movie is set to bring some of the most iconic fairytale characters all brought together as we are going to see Cinderella, Cinderella's Stepmother, The Baker, The Baker's Wife, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, The Big Bad Wolf, and Prince Charming are just some on board.

A great cast has also been assembled to help bring these characters to life, as Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Meryl Streep, and James Corden are just some of the great names on board - it really is one of the most exciting of the whole of 2015. I love it when a great ensemble cast comes together, and Into The Woods looks like it is going to be a musical treat that is a lot of fun.

Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.

This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel - all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

Into The Woods has already started to win over the critics with some early screenings and I can't wait to see what Marshall delivers as he returns to the musical genre. We are not going to see too many musicals released in 2015, so if you are a fan of this genre then this is going to be one to savour.

We have already been treated to some great musical moments from the film - the scene where Meryl Streep (who is playing the witch) who sings about wanting her daughter to stay with her really is going to be a terribly moving moment.

The likes of Streep, Depp, and Kendrick have all shown off their singing abilities in Mamma Mia, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Pitch Perfect and I am looking forward to seeing them return to this genre as well as the vocal abilities of the rest of the cast.

Into the Woods is set to be a great fantasy/comedy movie for the whole family and one that I really cannot wait to see at the beginning of next year.

Into The Woods is released 9th January 2015.
