Jack O'Connell

Jack O'Connell

Jack O'Connell is a name that you really do have to watch out for over the next year, as he has a very busy 2013 ahead of him.

O'Connell made his name in TV series Skins, and now he is making a very successful transition to the big screen. He is back this week as one of the new faces on the cast list for 300: Rise of an Empire.

300: Rise of an Empire is the long awaited sequel to 300, and is sees another of Frank Miller's graphic novels adapted into a screenplay.

O'Connell will take on the role of Calisto in what will be the biggest film of his career to date. He is part of an all-star cast, as Lena Headey, Eva Green, Sullivan Stapleton and Rodrigo Santoro are all also on board.

300: Rise of an Empire is just one of the movies that will be the major breakthrough for O'Connell this year: we are going to be seeing plenty of him over the next few months.

Starred Up is another film to watch out for, as O'Connell teams up with director David Mackenzie.

Starred Up has already been playing extensively on the festival circuit, and has been receiving praise left, right, and centre.

The movie will follow Eric (O'Connell) a troubled and violent teen who is transferred to an adult prison. Here he meets his match... that man just happens to be his father.

Starred Up is the first film for Mackenzie since You Instead, while Jonathan Asser has penned the screenplay.

O'Connell's leading performance has already been heavily praised, as he stars alongside Rupert Friend, Ben Mendelsohn, and Sam Spruell.

Another O'Connell project that is already whipping up a storm is Unbroken: which is the second directorial outing for Angelina Jolie.

We will not be seeing the film until the beginning of 2015, but it is a film that is already gathering plenty of interest.

Unbroken will follow the story of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini and his experience during the Second World War: he was taken prisoner by Japanese forces.

O'Connell will take on the role of Zamperini in the film, and promises to be a film and a part that will send his star rocketing even further.

Garrett Hedlund, Jai Courtney, and Domhnall Gleeson will all-star alongside O'Connell, while Joel and Ethan Coen have penned the screenplay.

Over the next year, O'Connell will tackle a range of different roles as he moves from blockbuster, to British film, to biopic: showing his versatility and range as an actor.

O'Connell is one of the most exciting young British actors around, and is set to be a huge star.

300: Rise of an Empire is released 7th March.
