Jeremy Renner has already delivered outstanding performances in the likes of The Town and The Hurt Locker, and now he is set to return with Kill The Messenger.
Kill The Messenger is another of the biopic projects to watch out for this autumn, as Renner plays real-life journalist Gary Webb.
The film sees Renner team up with director Michael Cuesta for the first time, in what is his first film since he helmed Roadie.
The movie is based on the book Kill The Messenger by Gary Webb and Nick Schou, and has been adapted for the big screen by Peter Landesman.
We are going to see a whole host of great cast lists this autumn, and Kill The Messenger is another, as Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Robert Patrick, Ray Liotta, and Andy Garcia are just some of the other names on board.
The movie brings together an all-star cast, as Michael Sheen, Andy Garcia, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Paz Vega, Robert Patrick, and Barry Pepper are all on board.
The movie follows Webb as he stumbles onto a story, which leads to the shady origins of the men who started the crack epidemic on the nation’s streets... and further alleges that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S., and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua.
Despite warnings from drug kingpins and CIA operatives to stop his investigation, Webb keeps digging to uncover a conspiracy with explosive implications.
His journey takes him from the prisons of California to the villages of Nicaragua to the highest corridors of power in Washington, D.C. - and draws the kind of attention that threatens not just his career, but also his family and his life.
Renner has already bagged two Oscar nominations - Bes Actor for The Hurt Locker and Best Supporting Actor for The Town - and Kill The Messenger is being tipped as a third.
Kill The Messenger is another of the potential early Oscar contenders and I really do expect to see Renner in the mix at the beginning of next year.
