Life of Pi

Life of Pi

Life of Pi was one of the stand out films of 2012 as Ang Lee returned to the director's chair.

Life of Pi was an adaptation of the Yann Martel novel of the same name, and was widely regarded as an unfilmable book.

Not only did Lee blast that thought out of the water, he created a modern day masterpiece that really is a stunning piece of filmmaking.

Life of Pit is a ground-breaking movie event about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery.

While cast away, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with another survivor...a fearsome Bengal tiger.

Ang Lee has made some terrific movies during his career - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Brokeback Mountain being two that particularly stick out - but Life of Pi really is another set up.

First and foremost, the film just looks amazing - Life of Pi really did contain some of the best 3D images since the success of Avatar.

There is a truly beguiling beauty to every scene and moment, and the images that Lee and co create just transport you into the heart of this incredible story.

However, it is not all about how the movie looks, as Life of Pi is also a captivating story.

This is not just about a boy and his tiger lost at sea, Life of Pi is about belief and religion, and yet Lee never rams his opinion on those subjects in your face.

He very much takes the audience on an adventure, and yet leaves them to decide what they believe to be the truth.

Suraj Sharma takes on the central role of Pi Patel, and he gives a terrific central and solo performance: it is hard to believe that this was his feature film debut.

Life of Pi is my favourite of all of Ang Lee's movies, as it is just packed with the magic 'something' that make a good movie a great movie.

It was the most beautiful film to hit the big screen in 2012, and was as beautiful as it was entertaining.

This may have been a book many though was unfilmable, but Lee did so with a real passion and love, and that comes through in every frame.

Life of Pi really is a movie that you should really check out if you are yet to see it - a wonderful piece of filmmaking.
