Max Von Sydow returns to the big screen this week with Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, his first role since Robin Hood.

The movie sees him team up with filmmaker Stephen Daldry as well as newcomer Thomas Horn.

The actor is set to play The Renter in the heartwarming story as he befriends a young boy who is looking for a lock to fit a key that his father left behind before he was killed in 9/11.

In this latest video the veteran actor talks about the movie and about his role:

The movie also stars Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks as well as Viola Davis and John Goodman.

Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close tells the story of one young boy’s journey from heartbreaking loss to the healing power of self-discovery, set against the backdrop of the tragic events of September 11.

Eleven-year-old Oskar Schell is an exceptional child: amateur inventor, Francophile, pacifist.

And after finding a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Centre on 9/11, he embarks on an exceptional journey, an urgent, secret search through the five boroughs of New York.

As Oskar roams the city, he encounters a motley assortment of humanity, who are all survivors in their own ways.

Ultimately, Oskar’s journey ends where it began, but with the solace of that most human experience: love.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is released 17th February.
