Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep

It’s fair to say that Meryl Streep’s name is always in the mix when it comes to the Oscars having picked up seventeen nominations throughout her career.

Well it feel just like yesterday that she was basked in Oscar glory and making an acceptance speech right?

In fact the last time that Streep got her hands on an Oscar was back in 1982 for her performance in Sophie’s Choice; yes it really has been thirty years.

In fact Streep has won just two Academy Awards in her career, the other a Best Supporting Actress win for Kramer vs. Kramer.

Thirty years after her second win Streep is in the picture again for her colossal performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Yes Streep has dominated the awards circuit so far winning the Golden Globe and the Bafta and she appears to be the smoking hot favourite for the Oscar.

It seems that the only woman who can stand in her way is Viola Davis for her performance in The Help as she waltzed away with The Screen actors Guild Award.

But after a thirty year wait 2012 really should be the year where Streep walks away with the prize.

She really does deliver a stunning performance as Thatcher - a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender to have her voice heard in a male dominated profession.

Streep is simply superb as Thatcher from her voice to her look, to posture to how she moves it is simply wonderful to watch her play this incredibly strong and determined woman.

Sadly the movie itself has its flaws but Streep is its saving grace as her performance towers over the film.

For a woman who has been nominated so many times it is stunning that she has only won on two occasions but this weekend could and really should be her third win.
