Now, I have to admit that I was a little worried when it was announced that a Monsters, Inc sequel was in the works; if I am being honest I wasn't looking forward to it at all.

Monsters, Inc is my favourite Pixar movie of all time and I was worried that the magic of the first would be spoilt by an under-par sequel... I couldn't have been more wrong.

Mike and Sulley are two of the most popular Pixar characters of all time and it is wonderful to see them back on the big screen in a story that is an engaging and funny as the first.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn't always the case.

From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn't stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

No summer is complete without a Pixar film and Monsters University is just a treat from start to finish.

Billy Crystal and John Goodman are once again on top for - they really are two of the best voice artists around - they breathe life and soul into these two central characters.

It is great to see Mike and Sulley at each other's throats rather than best buds. It would have been so easy for Pixar to take this movie forward and give us more of what we got in the first movie.

It takes real guts to go back and change the dynamic of the central relationship; this was what made that first film so special.

And while there are some fantastic new monster creations that we can all enjoy this film does carry a very human message about striving for dreams and dashed dreams.

There are also some great scenes at the Monsters, Inc factory and that is a great tie in with the first film; it almost introduces us to the 2001 movie.

Perhaps the movie has played a little safe and is misses the ambition of some of the films that have gone before it. However, that does not in any way detract from what a wonderful watch that this is.

As someone who was very skeptical about this movie I walked away with the same feeling that I had the first time around, and that was something that I wasn't expecting.

From start to finish this movie looks fantastic, is packed with terrific new monster creations as well as being as funny as the first.

This is a summer movie that will light up the big screen and is absolutely not to be missed.

Monsters University is out now.
