Roland Emmerich's latest disaster movie 2012 has rocketed to the top of the U.S. box office toppling A Christmas Carol after just one week at the top.
Grossing $65 million in it's opening weekend 2012 easily claimed the #1 spot with a gross of $65 million.
Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments.
A global cataclysm brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
A Christmas Carol, which is an animation retelling of Charles Dickens' classic story fell to two while The Men Who Stare At Goats held onto the third spot.
Precious, which has done well on the festival circuit so far this year, rose eight places from twelve to four. The movie is already surrounded in Oscar talk and could feature heavily this awards season.
Michael Jackson's This Is It fell three places from two to five and there was a two place fall from four to six.
This week's biggest faller came in the form of The Box as it dropped four places from six to round off the top ten.
