Amy Adams says it is 'flattering' that her performance in The Master is being considered a possible Oscar contender.

The actress was back on the big screen at the weekend in the latest movie from director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Adams has been nominated three times already for her performances in Junebug, Doubt and The Fighter and this could well be Oscar nod number four.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "I will definitely be proud to show up, but I think it's far too presumptuous for me to claim any victory.

"To be singled out and to be discussed in any talk about the Oscars is really flattering.

"I wouldn't throw it in the ocean, but I don't feel I would have missed something in my career if I don't win an Oscar."

The Master has already taken the U.S. by storm and it is just one of the movies that is being tipped to pick up a string of nominations when they are announced in January - Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix also expected to be recognised for their performances.

The Master is out now.
