'Anchorman 2' may be pushing towards an acceptance by Paramount Studios following a public outcry after director Adam McKay revealed the company had shelved the project.

'Anchorman 2' may be made by Paramount Studios.

Plans to produce a sequel to the hit 2004 comedy 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy' - starring Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate - were shelved in April, but after a public outcry the company's president Adam Goodman may now be persuaded to take on the project.

That having been said, I'm clearly going into it like another movie so if it does happen it's still two years away or a ways away. And I haven't talked to anyone. There's nothing happening right now but it helped, it helped.

Director Adam McKay told Collider.com: "It made a difference. Paramount heard it. Adam Goodman, the president of Paramount, was on the first one so he loves it and when that outcry came, he was kind of excited because he knew it could maybe push it towards happening.

"That having been said, I'm clearly going into it like another movie so if it does happen it's still two years away or a ways away. And I haven't talked to anyone. There's nothing happening right now but it helped, it helped."

In the past, Adam admitted all of the original film's stars - including Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd - had agreed to have their salaries cut to make the sequel.

He explained: "Graciously, Steve and Paul and everyone agreed to cut their price to come and do the sequel, which you don't see very often in Hollywood - and cut their price substantially."

The first movie 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' was a big international hit, grossing $90 million.
