Andrew Garfield has landed the role of Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot.

The British actor, which has made his name in the likes of Red Riding and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, fought of tough competition from the likes of Jamie Bell, Aaron Johnson and Logan Lerman to land the superhero role.

Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.

Despite it being reported that Josh Hutcherson has been offered the role yesterday Columbia Pictures have issued a press release announcing that Garfield will take on the central role of Peter Parker.

Marc Webb will direct the project and he said: Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents.

"He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.

While producer Avi Arad added: "I'm incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer.

"We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future."

Despite having Spider Man on the horizon the actor has releases in 2010 to also get excited about as he joins Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in Never Let Me Go.

He is also set to appear in David Fincher's The Social Network with Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake as well as Spike Jonze's short I'm Here.

Spider Man is scheduled for a 2012 release.
