Anna Faris' mother hates her latest film.

The 32-year-old actress admits her mom Karen can't stand 'Observe and Report' - in which Anna plays bitchy perfume-counter cashier Brandi - adding she likes the way the movie splits opinion.

She said: "It hurts my feelings when people are critical of it - my mom couldn't have been more critical of it! But it's also fun to watch it with those people, watching them get uncomfortable in some scenes."

Anna relished the chance to play a nasty character for a change, and revealed Brandi is actually based on someone close to writer and director Jody Hill's heart.

She explained: "Actors are constantly playing characters that are there to win the audiences over - and that's our job, to an extent - but it was just so great to play the bad girl for a change! She's so obnoxious and awful - I was just giggling the whole time.

"Was Brandi based on anyone? I'm grinning. Half-way through shooting Jody told me that the character was based off an ex-girlfriend of his. Now he denies it, but I don't know, I think there's an ex in there somewhere!"
