Anne Hathaway has admitted that she always wanted to be Catwoman when she was growing up.

The actress is set to bring the character of Selina Kyle back to the big screen this summer in The Dark Knight Rises, which is the third and final Batman movie in Christopher Nolan's trilogy.

And the Oscar nominated actress reveals that there is a whole host of aspects that she loves about this character.

Speaking to Hitfix the actress said: "I kind of got my big break with The Princess Diaries, and during the press rounds for that everyone asked me. 'Did you always want to be a princess growing up?'"

"And the truth was, no, I wanted to be Catwoman. And I think a lot of women feel that way, and the fact that I am actually her is such a dream come true."

"I loved Catwoman's sense of humour. I love how sly she is. I love how she walks the fence and you don't know which side she's going to come down on. She's totally independent.

"Let's face it, she's badass."

And Hathaway moves from one exciting project to another as she is currently filming Les Miserables where she will play Fantine.

The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July.
