Audrey Tautou's Chanel Fate

Audrey Tautou felt "predestined" to play Coco Chanel.

The 'Amelie' star plays the legendary fashion designer in 'Coco Before Chanel' and director and co-writer Anne Fontaine thought the actress was so perfect for the part, she threatened to quit the project if Audrey didn't accept the role.

Anne said: "I was rather nervous the day I handed a first version of the script to Audrey Tautou. I told her, 'You have the right to refuse, but as I see no one who could play the part but you, I'll quit if you say no.'

"Luckily, Audrey reassured me very quickly! You know that Audrey comes from the same area as Chanel. She grew up in Montlucon, 32 miles away from Moulins. Audrey told me, 'I always thought I'd come across this character one day.' She knew she was predestined for the role."
