Baz Luhrmann is reportedly yet to finish his latest movie Australia, despite it being due to receive it's world premiere next week.

Australia has been a labour of love for the director having been working on it for the last four years and he is set to fly back to Sydney this week to but the final touches to the movie.

The film, which stars Aussie actors Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, is romantic action-adventure set in northern Australia prior to World War II, centres on an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland.

When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Hugh Jackman) to drive 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country's most unforgiving land. While out with the cattle the pair experience the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbour only months earlier.

Australia reunites the maverick director with Nicole Kidman, working with her on Moulin Rouge, and the film is already surrounded in Oscar hype.

In a race against time Luhrmann has until this evening to complete his picture, after he strenuously denied reports that he was forced to change the end of the film by Twentieth Century Fox going on to say that he wrote six endings and shot three.

Australia opens in the UK on Boxing Day
