Beasts Of The Southern Wild

First time director Benh Zeitlin accepted The Sutherland Award for Best Debut Feature for Beasts Of The Southern Wild at the 56th BFI London Film Festival Awards on Saturday night and the film returns second highest screen average in the UK marketplace.

The LFF award follows on the heels of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and the Camera D’Or in Cannes for the heart-warming film which has been delighting audiences around the world and is already being tipped for further awards success.

In addition to a first time director Beasts Of The Southern Wild features a cast of non-professional actors and an outstanding debut performance from then six-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis as ‘Hushpuppy’.

The film has been receiving critical acclaim across the globe and garnered some famous fans along the way including Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt and President Barrack Obama.

Following the astonishing breakout success in the US when released earlier this year Beasts Of The Southern Wild opened in UK cinemas this weekend to an outstanding £5633 screen average - the second highest average in the marketplace.

After taking £157,717 from 28 locations across the country in its first weekend, and with word of mouth already proving extremely strong, it will expand its site count from Friday.
