Ben Affleck has revealed that he didn't want to glorify crime in his latest movie The Town.

As well as starring in the movie Affleck is back behind the camera for his latest project which take a look at organised crime. And the actor admits that he wanted to create an accurate portrayal.

Speaking to Reuters the actor turned director said: "The idea of whether or not I was glorifying a criminal character or minimising the impact of violence was on my mind throughout and was really important.

"The need to reconcile those moral considerations with the demands of truthful storytelling was the central issue for me.

"I tried to be both as accurate and as complicated as I could because while I didn't want to glorify anything, I didn't want to oversimplify anything."

And he reveals that at first he was reluctant to do the project because it was set in his hometown of Boston: "I was a little bit hesitant actually to do this because I did not want to be pigeonholed as the Boston director guy but I liked the part, I wanted to play the part, I believed the story was good."

Since breaking through with his directorial effort Gone Baby Gone in 2008 Affleck has got his career back on track with movie such as State of Play and He's Just Not That Into You.

After The Town, which also stars Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner and Blake Lively, Affleck is all set to star in Company Men as well as having an untitled Terrence Malik project on the horizon.
