Bill Nighy says it has taken him five years to land a 'Harry Potter' role.

The actor has confirmed he will portray Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in the two-part 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' after imploring director David Yates to give him a part.

He is quoted as saying: "I was with David when he got the job a couple of years ago and I said, 'Oh, well maybe now I won't be the only English actor who's not in Harry Potter' - that was like five years ago. Anyway, I finally made it under the wire.

We may have talked about it before, but he's one of the most gifted directors I've ever worked with

"We may have talked about it before, but he's one of the most gifted directors I've ever worked with. He's a quiet genius, David Yates. I'm delighted and very pleased I'm going to be in 'Harry Potter', but I'm doubly pleased because it's with David."

Bill recently admitted he has been asked to join the cast of the final instalment of the wizard franchise but initially refused to say who he will be playing.

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will be released in two parts, in November 2010 and July 2011.
