Despite new Bond film Quantum of Solace being top of the UK box office the rise in violence is not to the taste of former 007 actor Roger Moore.

The eighty one year old star, who portrayed the British spy for seven movies between 1973 to 1985, has stated that the rise in violence is not to his taste and the tongue in cheek humour has long since disappeared from the franchise.

"I am happy to have done it, but I'm sad that it has turned so violent," Moore said. "That's keeping up with the times, it's what cinema-goers seem to want and it's proved by the box office figures."

Moore took over from George Lazenby, who only starred in one movie, and starred in movies such as Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun but by his seventh outing, A View to Kill, the films were becoming too violent for the actor.

Quantum Of Solace broke UK box office records on its first day, making £4.9 million to beat the previous high of £4.03 million held by Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
