Brave had ended the reign of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted at the top of the U.S. box office as it has stormed to the #1 spot.

The latest Pixar movie, which is the first non-sequel in a couple of years, took $66.7 million in it's opening weekend to comfortably take the top spot.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman the movie follows Princess Merida who is determined to make her own path in life. But when she defies a custom she brings chaos to her kingdom.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted slipped just a single place to two this week as it took a further $20,2 million .

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which is the latest movie from director Timur Bekmambetov, is the second new entry inside the top three at number three while Prometheus fell two place to four.

Musical Rock Of Ages was also down two this week as it dropped from three to five. Snow White and the Huntsman fell out of the top five for the first time as it dropped just one place to six.

That's My Boy was one of the biggest fallers this week as it fell three places from four to seven. The Avengers was also down as it dropped from seven to eight.

Men In Black 3 was the other three place faller as it was down at nine and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World was the third and final new entry in at number ten.
