Carey Mulligan has described the romance side Drive as a 'quiet' part of the movie.

The actress stars alongside Ryan Gosling in the new movie and admits that there were very few lines between the couple in those relationship moments.

Spekaing to HitFix.com the actress said: "We would sort of sit around in the morning and [director Nic Winding Refn] would say, 'Do you want to say this?' And I would say, 'No.'

"And Ryan would go, 'I don't wanna say that.' So we'd end up with four words and then we'd sort of shoot the scenes and look at each other.

"It was weird. It just kind of felt like that was the part of the film that was going to be quiet and the rest of the film was going to be chaotic and action and killings and awesome stuff.

"This was the part of the film that was hopeful."

The actress has already had success this year with Never Let Me Go, an adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro, and has already completed work on Shame.

She is set to take on the role of Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby.

Drive is released 23rd September.
