Christian Bale

Christian Bale has hit out at journalists who continue to highlight the number of roles that he has lost weight for.

The actor is winning rave reviews for his performance in his new movie the Fighter as former boxer Dicky Eklund, but he had to drop 30lbs for the role.

The actor also shed the pounds for The Machinist and Rescue Dawn but has hit out at those who have suggested that losing the weight is easy for him - highlighting that it is a very painful part of his preparation.

Speaking to Empire the actor said: "I find it laughable that it's considered some f**king gimmick - it's so patronising.

"For God's sake, do people not understand what a pain it is to do? It's as though it's some comment about 'Oh, it's easy for him because he's done it a bunch of times.' It's not easy, it's not fun - it's horrible."

Bale has already picked up a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination for his performance and he is tipped to walk away with the Oscar later this year.

The Fighter, which also stars Mark Wahlberg, is the first movie for Bale since Public Enemies last summer.

He is set to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in his third Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises and he has also been linked to the 13 Women of Nanjing.

The Fighter is released 4th February.
