Producers of actor Jeremy Renner's new action thriller The Bourne Legacy have shifted the film's U.S. release date so as not to tangle with Batman and Colin Farrell's Total Recall revamp at the top of the box office.
The latest in the Bourne films was scheduled to hit cinemas on 3 August (12) - the same day as director Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake and two weeks after Christopher Nolan's final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises - but movie executives at Universal Pictures have decided they'd rather avoid a tussle with Farrell and Christian Bale's blockbuster juggernaut.
The Renner-fronted Bourne franchise project will now hit cinemas a week later on 10 August (12).
A statement released on Friday (22Jun12), announcing the date change, read "Just as The Avengers demonstrated marketplace sustainability that well outpaced traditional patterns earlier this summer, the industry expects a similar trajectory for The Dark Knight Rises. "Moving one week further from its release will give The Bourne Legacy an even greater opportunity to maximise its opening box-office potential".
