Couples Retreat has ended the reign of Pixar movie Up as it grossed just under $3 million in it's opening weekend.

The movie brings together a great comedy cast of Vince Vaughn, Jason Batemen, Jon Favreau and Kristen Bell. Four couples attend a retreat on a tropical island to reinvigorate their marriages.

Up's dominance at the box office came to an end and the popular Pixar movie had to settle for second spot, it did however gross a further $2 million.

Mao's Last Dancer also fell one place but grossed a similar figure to Up. Jumping up five places was Meryl Streep's latest movie Julie and Julia.

Already the movie is surrounded in Oscar talk and Streep is the current favourite to take the Best Actress gong next year for her portrayal of Julia Child.

It was a one place drop for G-Force as it moved from four to five while Surrogates dropped three places from three to six.

Drew Barrymore's directorial debut was a new entry at seven, it was the only other new entry inside the top ten.
