Director Danny Boyle has been given a top award by the Director's Guild of America (DGA).

The British director was recognised for outstanding directorial achievement in a feature film - the most prestigious prize available from the guild - for his latest release, 'Slumdog Millionaire'.

If I can get here, you can get here. Dream hard.

Accepting the award from last year's winners, Joel and Ethan Coen brothers, Boyle said: "If I can get here, you can get here. Dream hard."

Boyle beat stiff competition from directors including David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Gus Van Sant and Ron Howard to scoop the prize.

'Slumdog Millionaire' has proved a huge hit worldwide and has already earned Boyle a Golden Globe award for best director.

The film is also nominated for 10 Oscars, and Boyle's DGA win has increased speculation that he could receive the Best Director gong at the Oscars - since 1948, only six DGA award winners have not gone on to win the Academy Award for Best Director.

Meanwhile the star of 'Slumdog Millionaire', Dev Patel, has been confirmed to appear in forthcoming film 'The Last Airbender', which will be directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
