Slipknot.|s musicnews * Elizabeth Taylor Leads More Tributes To Paul Newman Paul Newman's Cat On A Hot Tin Roof co-star Elizabeth Taylor has added to the tributes to the late movie icon, who lost his battle with cancer on Friday (26Sep08).
The actress, who like Newman has been battling illness for some time, states she'll miss the Cool Hand Luke star as both an actor and a friend.
She says, "He was purity of heart. Working with him was such a joy. Knowing him, being his friend, was as golden as the sunset and a privilege I'll never forget."
And Newman's Absence of Malice co-star Sally Field has also paid her respects to the late acting great, stating, "Sometimes God makes perfect people and Paul Newman was one of them."
Meanwhile, Body of Lies co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe took time out of promo interviews for their new film over the weekend to honour Newman.
DiCaprio said, "He is the benchmark of what you want to become as a professional in this industry; he led a normal life, he did great work. His philanthropic work, beyond being an actor... has a legacy that's gonna live on."
And Crowe added, "I think there's a period of time where... he did the stuff that was informing the history and the future of cinema."
And action man-turned California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger took time out of his official business on Saturday (27Sep08) to add his tribute.
The former Terminator star said, "Paul Newman was the ultimate cool guy who men wanted to be like and women adored. He was an American icon, a brilliant actor, a Renaissance man and a generous but modest philanthropist.
"He entertained millions in some of Hollywood's most memorable roles ever, and he brightened the lives of many more, especially seriously ill children, through his charitable works.
"Paul was one of a kind. The beloved film star will be missed by a world of fans and admirers."
And longtime friend and fellow racing enthusiast David Letterman has added, "Paul was a very fine actor and a really good race driver, but mostly, he personified humanity - always taking care of those who were less fortunate. For me, this will be his legacy."
