Eastern Promises Opens London Film Festival

Last night David Cronenberg's mob drama Eastern Promises opened the 51st London Film Festival.The film starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts is a Russian crime thriller that is set in the capital.Eastern Promises come hot from its success at the Toronto Film Festival where it won the main prize.The People's Choice Award, which is voted for by film fans, is an indicator of Oscar success.Cronenberg and Mortensen's lost collaboration 2005's A History of violence was nominated for two Oscars.Eastern Promises kicks off the two week long event where 180 movies will be screened representing over forty countries as well as a host of stars gracing the red carpet.Expected to attend are Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep for their film Lions for Lambs and directors Ang Lee and Sean Penn.The festival will close on November 1 with the screening of The Darjeeling Limited, starring Owen Wilson and Adrian Brody, a comedy about three brothers travelling around India.Helen Earnshaw
